Hello Family,
This coming Saturday we will break bread at sunset, celebrate among our ancestors, use the seasons first ripe blueberries to make wine, get bare foot and ground on good fertile land. Here are a few field notes to help you prepare. First I’d like to introduce a few of my incredible collaborators helping bring this special day to life. Meet Farmer Cee, our gracious farm Host.
Clarenda "Farmer Cee" Stanley is a visionary entrepreneur, farmer, herbalist, and advocate for ethical business and sustainable living. Known affectionately as "Farmer Cee," she is the founding CEO of Green Heffa Farms, a wellness brand and herb farm that celebrates the power of nature to heal and nourish. Raised on her maternal grandparents' farm, with an awarded professional background in marketing and environmental fundraising and a deep and profound respect for the Earth, Farmer Cee dedicates her life to promoting holistic health and wellness practices that honor the interconnectedness of all living things.
Dress Code & Location: Please look out for an email from Eventbrite with the exact address in Liberty, North Carolina. Because this space is a Black owned cannabis and herb sanctuary, the address is not to be disclosed to non-guests—hold it close to your heart. Thank you for your discretion.
What to Wear: The un-official dress code is “Black Wash Pot Clean”. A line from Nikky Finney’s speech below. Wear what makes you feel free. If you put something on and second guess if it’s too much, I want you to double down and wear it for your ancestors. Breathable and light weight, dance friendly, is recommended. A good comfy shoe is also recommended.
Also joining us, to put a whole local pig on the que— BBQ Royalty, Ryan Mitchell.
Ryan Mitchell is a Pitmaster known for his excellent North Carolina-style barbecue. With a legendary Pitmaster as a dad, Ryan Mitchell grew up in barbecue. In fact, Ryan has been prepping hogs and tending coals alongside his dad, Ed Mitchell, for as long as he can remember.
Passed down through generations over the course of 125 years, and hearkening back even further than that. Reaching back to his ancestors who were sharecroppers and before that, enslaved, Ed and Ryan Mitchell are keeping this barbecue tradition alive.
Support his work, here. Get the cookbook “Ed Mitchell's Barbeque: Time-Honored Techniques, Delicious Southern Flavors, and Family History From a Legendary Barbeque”.
And our fabulous friend Kennedi Carter will be providing a special portraiture activation, using film and polaroid.
Kennedi Carter will archive guests with a special donation based Polaroid and film activation, staged with local Black Folk art. Kennedi is a photographer, archivist and artist. She’s photographed some of our generations most impactful individuals. Including Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the youngest inaugural Poet in history, Amanda Gorman, and Cultural Icon, Beyonce Knowles - Carter.
Field Notes: Bring a fan, big hats welcome, BYOB (we cousins), sign up for a workshop, and come hungry.
We partnered with Proximity Hotel in Greensboro for a special weekend rate, if you want to stay 30 minutes from the farm. Bad news, we will no longer have transportation from the hotel, however we encourage carpooling if you can.
Send your questions and well wishes to our incredible event assistant Nia, at revivalsuppers@gmail.com.
Lastly, because we know we aren’t truly free until we’re all free, sign up to learn more about what local organizations are providing resources to our brothers and sisters being kidnapped and terrorized by ice. Siembra NC, is one of many doing impactful work here in the state.
