On August 17th of this year, a very special gathering happened on the Hatteras Shoreline in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Around 80 people of African descent stood firmly in the sand, facing the waters that many of our ancestors came in on. There was a great presence there, a protective and mighty energy that crashed on the shore and ran smoothly across the sand until it met our feet. Until it shimmered under the wooden table stacked with braised crab, corn, oysters and watermelon. A real scene from Daughters of the Dust.
